Hi! I'm Jamie Bright!

I am a Minnesota-based quilter who believes in human rights for all and is committed to creating a safe, inclusive quilting community for anyone of any identity who enjoys quilting (or wants to learn).

I created the Quilters Playspace because, as a professional quilt pattern designer and teacher, I spend far more time behind a computer screen than behind my sewing machine.

And that absolutely kills my creativity.

The best way I’ve found to re-spark my creativity is to give myself a challenge and actually make something, even if it’s just a single quilt block.

Research shows that creative challenges and constraints spark creativity. (Patricia Stokes, 2005).

In fact, challenges are what sparked my most popular quilt designs.

String Magic came from seeing the Ruby Star Society “Selvedge Magic” fabric and wondering what in the world you’d do with that to make it look good.

Creative challenges capture my attention and spark creativity in ways I can’t fully explain, and I want them to be a regular part of my quilting.

And with all the uncertainty in the world right now, there’s a deep part of me that NEEDS more time being creative & quilting to help calm my nervous system, without the pressure to finish a big project, so that I can show up as my best for the things in life that REALLY matter (like defending basic human rights).

Is this made from AI or is it run by an actual Quilter?

I'm glad you asked, because trust is at an all-time low right now, with scammers everywhere stealing patterns and selling low-quality AI-made garbage.

I’m a real, human quilt designer who is trying to support myself and my family in the quilting industry, and there's no AI used in this at all. You can see my work (and some silly shenanigans) on Instagram at @jamiebrightquilts.

I've also got an incredible (human) team that answers any questions you have via email (their names are Ashley & Amanda, and they are lovely).

Can I cancel my subscription?

Of course. We get it - circumstances change, but you can cancel your subscription at any time with zero hassles. We’ll be sad to see you go, but you can always join again in the future!

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel at any time with the click of a button using our easy one-click cancellation form.

How do I access the Quilters Playspace?

As soon as you finish filling out the form, our system will send you a magic link within 5-8 minutes that gives you immediate access to the Quilters Playspace members-only website. Just click the magic link, and you’ll have full access to the site. No logins to create or remember.

You’ll also get a link to join our private, customers-only community which is hosted on Facebook where you can introduce yourself and connect with other quilters like yourself!

Do the videos have captions? In what languages?

Yes, the challenge lessons & videos are fully captioned in English, Spanish, French, and German. The text and audio is only in English at this time.

Can I speed up or slow down the videos?

Absolutely. There is a button at the bottom right-side of the screen that will allow you to change this to whatever speed you want it to be.

What Level Quilter is this for?

Because YOU choose what you make for each challenge, this is suitable for both beginners who are looking to learn more skills AND advanced quilters who are looking to stretch their creative muscles and get out of their comfort zones.

Can I do the challenge more than once?

Absolutely. If a specific challenge inspires you, then make as many variations of it as you want to! You can even go back to past challenges and post them in our group at any time. We always celebrate when inspiration strikes, no matter when that is!

Spoiler Alert: You'll earn a star ⭐ for every challenge you complete, so the more you do, the more stars you can earn!

Is this a contest? Will it be judged?

No. There is no judging, no feedback (except what you ask for in the private group), and no completion prizes.

However, each month I’ll select a handful of quilters who completed the challenge to feature to my wider audience on social media and my email list to inspire them.

The goal isn’t to make the BEST thing, the goal is to MAKE something, play around, and see what happens.

Do I need to buy a fabric kit to participate?

No. In fact, you can totally use your existing stash and scraps to do the challenge each month.

(But don’t let us stop you from purchasing a bundle of fabric that brings you joy 🎉 if you need an excuse…)

Do I need any special rulers or notions?

Nope. You’re free to use them for challenges if you want to, but we won’t require any special tools to complete a challenge.

What if I get behind?

You can’t. You can always jump into our current challenge, even if you missed a month, or go back and do old challenges (which will be available for as long as you are an active member).

Is this a Block of the Month?

Definitely NOT! Though you are free to treat it like one if you want to.

Each month is an independent challenge meant to spark your creativity. There are no shipping charges, no patterns to get behind on, and you can keep access to all challenges for as long as you’re an active member.

What will I do with all the blocks I make?

That’s completely up to you! You can finish them as wall hangings, put them together to form a quilt, give them to a friend who loves them, make pot holders, tote bags, mug rugs, really anything.

How do I get sponsored gifts? Do you give them my information?

We NEVER share your information with anyone, including sponsors.

When sponsored gifts are available, you’ll receive an email notifying you that a gift is available for a limited time and will receive instructions on how to redeem the gift directly from that particular sponsor.

Gifts will not be available for free after the limited time frame has passed for any reason, so make sure you redeem your free gifts before they expire (you’ll usually have 1 week to redeem any gifts).

Because we are an international, inclusive community that welcomes all people and wants all members to find the gifts relevant, sponsored gifts (such as patterns) will not be religious or country-specific/patriotic in nature so-as to keep them relevant to the entire community.
